We have an opening for a researcher in cognitive sciences with
psychology / social sciences background. The person we seek will be
working with leading external research institutions and universities
as well as researching in their own right on a range of business
problems around the human side of business organisation and
cognition. This is a unique chance to gain experience in a first

You will be joining the global management sciences / think tank team
of Mars, called Catalyst- a function that has existed in Mars since
the 1950’s. This is 25 strong with people based in Brussels, New
Jersey USA and Shanghai and the team reports into the CEO of Mars.
Objective are to catalyse business decisions that have a big global
impact in areas as diverse as sales, marketing, manufacturing and
strategy and to research areas that give Mars a real advantage in the
competitive market of food manufacturing.
The Work
We are looking for a passionate researcher /scientist who wants to
see their research and talent used to solve real world problems and
who would like to join a multi disciplinary, nationally diverse
research team using techniques from both hard and soft sciences
(e.g.theoretical physics, plant sciences, econometrics, mathematics,
MBA’s, computer sciences). The person we are looking for will play a
founding role in the expansion of our research capabilities in the
human / social science and will not only lead the cognitive science
work but will develop and work with an external network of
universities and research institutions in psychology, sociology and
anthropology.
Currently, we have focussed on the use of cognitive sciences and
advertising and communication with consumers but will expand our
applications to other areas of business
The Person
You will have a post graduate (Ph.D.)degree that has specialised in
cognitive sciences, yet have wider interests in the social sciences
(psychology, ethnology, sociology) and a wide interest in the business.

This position joins the Catalyst team in Brussels. Brussels is an
excellent place to live. Brussels is a reasonably sized and very
liveable city with, thanks to the European Union, a great diversity
of nationalities and a wide range of activities and support for
people moving here.
